La Jolla Coast Walk Trail views

Posted by George J Janczyn on July 15, 2018

The La Jolla Coast Walk Trail which snakes along the cliff edges above the San Diego-La Jolla ecological reserve offers some great views. It’s a nice way to spend a Sunday morning especially if it’s not hot and a breeze is blowing (like it was when I was taking these pictures).

The La Jolla Cove beach is a nice place to begin. It’s just down the hill from the trailhead which is adjacent to The Cave Store on Prospect Avenue.

La Jolla Cave lookout point near the trailhead.

The trail begins on the left side of the store.

Trestles (San Onofre State Beach)

Posted by George J Janczyn on May 21, 2017

Trestles is immediately south of San Clemente. We went midweek so it wasn’t crowded. Parking for the trailhead can be found just east of the Christianitos Rd offramp from I-5 and it’s about a 15-minute walk on the trail to the beach. The big attraction here is the great surfing, of course, but it’s a nice place to walk along the shoreline, explore the surroundings, relax on the sand, and enjoy the sights.

Ramona Grasslands County Preserve

Posted by George J Janczyn on April 3, 2017

Following our decent winter rains, now is a good time to visit Ramona Grasslands County Preserve since everything is green there right now. The two loop trails (just about 3 miles total round trip, rated “easy” in Jerry Schad’s “Afoot & Afield San Diego County”) provide a pleasurable 2-hour spring hike with a variety of scenic spots. The trail is horse friendly so you may encounter some equestrian traffic along the way. As usual, click photos for enlargements.

Mountain Palm Springs (Anza-Borrego Desert State Park)

Posted by George J Janczyn on March 21, 2017

We didn’t want to risk crowds and traffic going to see the wildflower bloom at Borrego Springs today, so we opted for the southern part of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park where we went hiking at Mountain Palm Springs. Here are a some of the views we had on the 2.5 mile loop trail.
