A large City of San Diego project called Del Cerro 7CC in the vicinity of Del Cerro Blvd. at the south end of Madra Ave. will underground approximately 4 miles of overhead lines and 422 private properties. According to Nathan Bruner, the city’s Underground Program Manager, the project will likely begin in July. Trenching will last about a year and another year for cabling and removal of poles.

To the east of Madra Ave., Del Cerro Blvd. is divided by a wide island with only a single lane in each direction, but Mr. Bruner did not know if trenching will cause complete closure of single lane segments. That will be determined by a traffic manager and residents will be be informed in advance. Equipment and supplies staging may be done at the fenced asphalt lot on top of the hill at the Pasatiempo Open Space area (the space has been leased from the city for that purpose, in any event).
